Russia demands FIFA expels Ghana's opponents USA from 2014 World Cup
Two members of the Russian Parliament have written a letter to FIFA demanding that the USA national team are expelled from the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Tensions begin to mount between Russia and the United States and further animosity grows now that the conflict has spilled over into the sporting world.
Alexander Sidyakin and Michael Markelov, who are two members of Russia’s Duma have written a letter to FIFA president Sepp Blatter complaining of human rights violation against the United States.
The letter that was sent on March 11th specifically stated that Russia believed: “(FIFA should) urgently convene an emergency session to consider suspending USA’s membership in FIFA and denying the U.S. team the right to participate in the upcoming 2014 World Cup in Brazil.”
The letter is a response to a previous petition circulated by the USA which asked FIFA to prohibit Russia from competing at the World Cup due to its military action towards the Ukraine.
Sidyakin, one of the members of the Russian Parliament who wrote the letter recently tweeted: “It’s an eye for an eye, a ball for a ball. Don’t the let the USA take part in the 2014 World Cup! End their membership of FIFA’s”
This situation looks set to reach boiling point soon so keep an eye out for any updates on FIFA’s response to both the USA’s and Russia’s accusations.
