Inter Allies defied all odds to hand Medeama a shock 1-0 defeat at the Tarkwa and Aboso Park in the Ghana Premier League on Saturday.

Midfielder George Asamoah's headed in a rebound from close range inside the second half for the match winner.

Medeama dominated play for the chunk of the match but had their efforts thwarted by an inexperienced but resolute defenders of Allies.

Centre-back pair of captain Joseph Aidoo and Baba Mensah were superior against Kennedy Boateng, Godbless Asamoah and Theophilus Anobaah.

Henry Lartey, the Inter Allies goalkeeper, also deserve the credit for that rare after including great saves including parrying away Boateng's flick in the first half.

Allies barely attacked Medeama with youngster Alhassan Shamsu leading the attack but it was in midfield they flourished.

Gockel Ahortor, Lawson Sabah and goalscorer Asamoah were too slippery for Victor Ayirey and Malik Akowuah.

Medeama were the better side in the first half but could not make their dominance count and that swelled the confidence of Allies.

After the break, Allies looked stronger and repelled every attack mounted by their hosts.

In the 49th minute, Shamsu fired at goal but Medeama goalkeeper Foli Adade palmed it into play and on-rushing Asamaoh headed in aided by poor marking from Henry Enstir.

That rattled Medeama's cage and launched moves to draw even but steady defending coupled with brilliant goalkeeping deny the home side.

Stand-in coach Stephen Abugri exhausted his substitutions but things did not work out.

Medeama slumped to their second home defeat of the season and for Inter Allies their fourth win of the season but they will still remain at the foot of the table.
