Ex Ghana international Ibrahim Sunday is excited over the upcoming National Players Awards.

The newly introduced annual event seeks to recognize and honour the contribution of personalities who have don the jersey of the various national teams with distinction.

The maiden event which is expected to come off in June will see the Black Stars team of 1963 and 65 receive a special award for their Nations Cup feat.

A category to award the current crop of Black Stars players have also been designed as well as the Top Goalscorer and the Most Dedicated player in the calendar year of 2011 will be honoured.

The event is a dream come true to members of the Retired Fooballaer Association of Ghana (RENFAG) who have been craving for such recognition for sometime now.

“We are very happy that finally there is going to be an event to reward and acknowledge personalities who have made a lot of sacrifices for the nation,” RENFAG President Ibrahim Sunday said.

“It has been long coming but they say it is better late than never.

“We wish the organizers well and hopefully this award has come to stay.”

An official launch of the novelty will be held in April to reveal the various categories and incentives of the award scheme.
