Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah will not call up a replacement for injured Kevin Prince Boateng in the squad for the crucial 2014 World Cup playoff clash against Egypt.
The Ghana FA confirmed on Thursday that Boateng has been ruled out of Tuesday’s match because of the injury he suffered while playing for his German club Schalke.
The Ghana FA was hoping further tests could have cleared the Schalke player for the game after earlier reports that the midfielder would not be available for the game.
The GFA has now confirmed after the tests that Boateng will not play in the match.
It was previously speculated that in-form Kotoko striker Yahaya Mohammed would be called up to replace Boateng in the Black Stars squad.
But the Ghana FA says there will no additions to the Ghana squad following the injury to Boateng.
“No player will be called up to replace Boateng in the squad,” the GFA statement on Thursday said.
Boateng missed Ghana’s last match against Zambia in Kumasi, also on the ground of injury.
The Black Stars are already missing key midfielder Rabiu Mohammed as well as defenders John Boye and Jonathan Mensah due to injuries for the match against Egypt.
Ghana are seeking to play in the World Cup for the third consecutive time, having reached the quarterfinals in their last appearance in 2010.
