Ghana U20 coach Sellas Tetteh believes recording a massive scoreline in the first leg of their African Cup qualifier against Gabon is not vital to the team’s qualification.

The Black Satellites will be playing host in the first leg of the ultimate qualifier for next year’s African Youth Championships to be staged in Senegal.

Many believe taking a massive first leg advantage especially when playing at home in African qualifiers is most crucial to any team’s bid of progression.

But coach Sellas Tetteh says football has changed that much that maximizing home advantage serves no guarantee for qualification.

“Let me tell you something, we’ve qualified playing away more than when playing home. Our game against Morocco readily comes into mind,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“But of course, if we get the chances to score more here [to effectively kill off the tie] we will have to take it.

“But then if we don’t, it doesn’t mean we are out. Football has changed that much.”

Ghana will have to beat Gabon over two legs in order to book its place in next year’s finals to be hosted by Senegal.

The Black Satellites hope to recapture the form that saw them win every competition they entered including the World Cup in 2009.
