Real Madrid win anytime Michael Essien plays at the Bernabeu in La Liga

Michael Essien in action for Real Madrid

Ghana midfielder Michael Essien has become synonymous with wins for Real Madrid when he plays a league match at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid have been impressive anytime the on-loan Chelsea midfielder plays at home in the Spanish La Liga.

The victims have been Celta Vigo, Zaragoza, Real Sociedad, Getafe, Sevilla and last Sunday Rayo Vallecano.

Essien is a trusted man for Jose Mourinho and was always available in the absence of left-backs Coentrao and Marcelo were both injured.

That has allowed him to play up to six games at home and always with the same result, Real Madrid winning.

With Essien in the starting lineup, before facing the Rayo Vallecano, Real Madrid had won at the Bernabeu to Celta Vigo (2-0), Zaragoza (4-0), Real Sociedad (4-3), Getafe (4-0) and Sevilla (4-1).
