Real Madrid have targeted Brazilian Casemiro from their youth team as a replacement for Ghana midfielder Michael Essien.
Essien, whose season-long loan deal expires at the end of the season, will return to Chelsea where he could reunite again with departing Madrid boss Jose Mourinho.
Casemiro arrived at Real in January from Brazilian club Sao Paulo costing 4 million euros has seen his market value rise to 4.5 million euros this month.
Real have the option to sign the player until June 30 and it is thought that the club will move to snap him up.
Incoming coach Carlo Ancelotti wants to freshen his squad for the next campaign.
