Real Madrid could punish Essien for speeding offence

Michael-Essien could be punished by Real Madrid after being caught speeding

Real Madrid are considering punishing Ghana midfielder Michael Essien who was caught speeding last month.

The Spanish giants believe his action has tarnished the image of the club following his arrest by the police on the M-40 Madrid road.

He was slapped with a 400 Euros fine in Spain for driving at a speed exceeding 50 kilometers of the allowed limit.

The on-loan Chelsea player was also docked four points on his dirver’s license for the same offence.

Although he passed a breathalyser test, Essien is unlikely to escape further punishment from his employers.

“The club have not taken a decision on it, but whatever, would not be made ??public  because it is considered that the action was committed occurred outside the discipline of the club, in particular life players ,” a source close to Real Madrid said.

Essien is not the only Real Madrid player to have fallen foul of the law as Karim Benzema and Marcelo were also caught for a similar offence.

Benzema was driving 216 miles per hour on a road which is not permitted drive more than 100 miles per hour.
