For Ghana defender Abdul Rahman Baba, there is a reason to celebrate

For Ghana defender Abdul Rahman Baba, there is a reason to celebrate Wednesday's qualification for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations but for his German Bundesliga side Augsburg its a big problem.

The left-back played for the Black Stars on Wednesday for them to qualify for the tournament to be played in Equatorial Guinea.

This means Augusburg will miss their key defender when the second half of the Bundesliga season resumes after in January.

In Baba's hometown of Tamale, Ghana won 3-1 against Togo thus becoming the group winners for the ticket for the Africa Cup of Nations to be held from 17 January to 8 February 2015 in Equatorial Guinea.

Baba, who was playing his fifth international match, played again in the starting XI to help his side qualify.

This means  he will only play a part in a bit of Augsburg's winter preparation.

He will miss the start of the second-half of the season including the training camp from January 11 to 19 in Belek (Turkey).

Depending on the performance of Ghana at the African Cup of Nations, Baba will miss at least the first three games of the Bundesliga after the break against Hoffenheim, Dortmund and Frankfurt.

Baba's deputy at the left-back position at Augsburg is Marcel de Jong (under contract until 2016) and has played only one match this season. The Canada international is unhappy with his role on the bench but Baba's absence should give him the chance to play.

Baba is expected back in Augsburg on Friday morning.
