Abeyie wants to gatecrash Ghana AFCON squad

Ghana winger Quincy Owusu Abeyie wants to play for the Black Stars at the 2013 African Cup of Nations.

The 26-year-old has impressed heavily since he joined Greek giants Panathinaikos at the start of the season.

But the Dutch-born star has not featured for the West African heavyweight since he last played at a 2012 Nations Cup qualifier against Sudan in 2011.

The former Arsenal man is confident his sublime performances for Panathinakos will earn him a recall into the team ahead of the continental showpiece in South Africa next year.

“I'm always prepared to play for the Black Stars whenever I am called upon to do so,” Abeyie said

“But that depends on the technical handlers of the team whether they need me in the team or not.

“I still play regularly in Greece for Panathinaikos.

“ I'm hoping to be part of Ghana’s final squad to the AFCON in South Africa, but I will continue to fight back into the team even if I am not selected.’’

Abeyie has earned a reputation as a journeyman, having played for several clubs including Cardiff, Celta Vigo, Malaga, Spartak Moscow, Al Sadd, Birmingham and Portsmouth.
