Abeyie wants to gatecrash Ghana AFCON squad

Posted On Wednesday, 31st October 2012

Quincy Owusu Abeyie wants to play for the Black Stars at the 2013 Nations Cup

Ghana winger Quincy Owusu Abeyie wants to play for the Black Stars at the 2013 African Cup of Nations.

The 26-year-old has impressed heavily since he joined Greek giants Panathinaikos at the start of the season.

But the Dutch-born star has not featured for the West African heavyweight since he last played at a 2012 Nations Cup qualifier against Sudan in 2011.

The former Arsenal man is confident his sublime performances for Panathinakos will earn him a recall into the team ahead of the continental showpiece in South Africa next year.

“I’m always prepared to play for the Black Stars whenever I am called upon to do so,” Abeyie said

“But that depends on the technical handlers of the team whether they need me in the team or not.

“I still play regularly in Greece for Panathinaikos.

“ I’m hoping to be part of Ghana’s final squad to the AFCON in South Africa, but I will continue to fight back into the team even if I am not selected.’’

Abeyie has earned a reputation as a journeyman, having played for several clubs including Cardiff, Celta Vigo, Malaga, Spartak Moscow, Al Sadd, Birmingham and Portsmouth.

  1. Kay says:

Akwasi Appiah needs to explain to Ghanaians why he kept on ignoring QOA. The fans want to know what’s going on. How could you isolate a great player for how long?

  2. zambians are pigs says:

I think there is a fundamental reason for not calling him to the fold.As for explaining the rational behind not calling him, sometimes l think certain things are better left in the cold.

  3. texas says:

AA I hope you are listening and seeing properly. Give this
player a chance. We need his skills and experience. Please..

  4. selfmade says:

Quincy is now the most experienced player in the bs and i wonder if there is any player in the current setup who can take on players brilliantly, give peefect passes and crosses than quincy.. i dont understand why a country desperate for elusive afcon keeps on ignoring its most valuable assests?? Are we serious in our quest to win this title at all or is just some talk?? If quincy was appiah or essien, would he have being sidelined for such a long time?? Whats his fault at all because i for instance is dying to get some ans!!!! Ivory coast has all its experienced on deck no matter happens but ghanaians always wants to throw all its well established stars away and i wonder why? How can appiah and gfa travels to germany to watch some ghanaian player who might probably not feature for us whiles throwing away those who have the desires and passion to feature for us!! If this move is not double standard, two faced and hypocrisy, then i wonder what its!!! Come on we need to sometimes reason sometimes!! If appiah wants to win the afcon and not just some talk, then this is the time to show ghanaians that he is his own man and invite quincy!! Is now or never for him because i know he is a former player and he understand how players feels when ignored!

  5. Ded Boi says:

AA please give him a chance in the team cos he is one of the best wingers we have and he plays like CR7 .We need him invite him.

  6. real sabacious says:

I’m sick and tired about this Abeyie issue.i keep on saying he Abeyie is far better as a striker than Warris,Clottey and even my man Jordan!atleast this guy deserve a bench role in the stars.time for Akwasi Appiah to wise up and do the right thing.ie calling Abeyie.

  7. Mr.Boii says:

QUINCY OWUSU ABEYIE DESERVES AT LEAST A PLACE AT THE BENCH!!! WHATs wrong with the coach??? i hope Essien won’t play at the afcon, so there is more place for quincy.

Im even amazed he is still focussing on his come back in the BS (love that!) coz if it were me..being neglected, used , neglected all the time i would have stopped focussing on the national team.

AKWASI APPIAH: CALL HIM FOR THE NEXT FRIENDLY GAME ON THE 14TH OF NOVEMBER!!

  8. phillbanger says:

They always talk about the guy is not disciplin thats bunch of bullshit.wen muntaries mother said without muntari there is no gbs all that bullshit didnt the gfa forgave him.wen gyan quit the gbs and came back didnt the gfa welcome him with an open hands wat has this guy done soo badly that he still gets neglected.i really think there is somethin fishie goin on.the guy is ten times better that j pensiland all these soo called superstars

  9. banks says:

AKWASI APPIAH WHAT HAS THIS MAN DONE TO U? FUCKING MAN LIKE U. IS GHANA FOR U? U FUCKING CALL WARRIS, CLOTTEY, AND LOST OF KOTOKO PLAYERS LIKE A FOOL.AM A KOTOKO FAN BUT I LUV THE BS BETHER. KWASIIIAH MAN, ABOOAHTOLUWA.LOLZ

  10. AKWASI APPIAH PLES CALL QUINCY OWUSU ABEYIE says:

AKWASI APPIAH FUCKING CALL THIS GUY. BLACK MAN.
U FUCKING WENT TO SWEDEN TO WATCH WARRIS.U WENT TO LONDON,FRANCE,ITALY..WHY NOT GRECE TO WATCH

    QUINCY OWUSU ABEYIE?

  11. leshaq says:

With Abayie on the right, Astu on the left and Gyan been supported by Kwadwo Asamoah. Our attack will be one of the best in the world

  12. Dr Who says:

For God sake,AA call Quincy now.He is far better than 4 ft Solomon Asante whom you have been inviting and using as a right winger.Quincy is the only experienced natural pacy winger/attacker we have at the moment. He plays like Gervinho & CR7

  13. Randy says:

Akwasi Appiah should do the most honorable thing by calling Quincy.
It doesn’t make sense to anyone why leaving behind one of the best we have and playing inexperienced players match after match.
After Liberia defeat, a wise coach would call all his experienced players.
    No excuse Mr Appiah.

  14. dread says:

AA use ur fucking common sense and call Quincy. He is far better than solomon asante, waris, clottey, gyan and the rest of the unecessary players u have been calling. What has Quincy done to gfa and the coach? There is something going on.Useless AA!

  15. Mr.Boii says:

Quincy, Atsu, Asamoah, Waris, Ayew and Gyan is deadly!

  16. Sam says:

Theres no player in the b/stars team right now who has skills and can take an opponent on one on one, Atsu is little close but stiil cant compare with quincy. After i saw quincy on the bench at the world cup and didnt play a single game and inkoom played on the right wing, i was not that crazy about black stars games anymore. A.A is time to let quincy back in the team. Remember your job security is in the hands of the b/stars fans, not GFA.

  17. big richie says:

CAN’T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY DON’T INVITE HIM TO PLAY FOR THE BLACK STARS,THIS GUY IS REALLY COMMITTED.

  18. Blow says:

Akwasi is preoccupied with CHAN strikers and Jordan who failed to prove themselves through numerous call-ups.Quincy is a Black Star material who if managed properly will do a yeoman’s job for the team. Peel your eyes dude.

  19. GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

AA DEY SEARCH CHIBOM AND YOUGHURT MONEY…ABEYIE, JUST GIVE AM SOMETHING SMALL, WAI…ITS CALLED GREASING..MUAHAHAHHAAAAA
