Quiet weekend for Gh players abroad

It was a quiet weekend for Ghanaian players abroad after monitoring on the globe action in some of the Leagues. Ghanasoccernet.com brings you a lowdown of how they fared.

Denmark:

Former Asante Kotoko center-back Issah Ahmed returned to action for Randers FC which were held to a scoreless draw by Aalborg at home.

England:

Fulham struck twice past Wigan Athletic to prevent a third successive Premier League defeat.

Ghana right-back John Pantsil continued to warm the bench for the Cottagers.

Chelsea overpowered Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park with 1-2 win to remain top of the League.

Midfield dynamo Michael Essien came close to putting the Blues on level terms on the 37th minute after the home side had opened the scoring.

In the Npower Championship, Patrick Agyemang came off the bench in QPR's one-all home draw with Burnley.

Agyemang came on after 62 minutes but could not helps Hoops pick maximum points.

Jo Osei Kuffuor played 84 minutes for Bristol City which shared the spoils with Carlisle at home in a 1-1 draw.

Seth Nana Ofori-Twumasi played 26 minutes for Petersborough United whose poor form in the League One was highlighted again with their 3-0 home defeat to Brighton.

Scotland:

David Goodwillie's solitary strike on the 87th minute undid Hibernian in a keenly contested game at the Tannadice Park.

Prince Buaben enjoyed full time action but compatriot Francis Dickoh watched the game from the sidelines for Hibs whose misery in the league continued.

Spain:

Granada FC condemned Xerez to a 5-0 defeat at the Estadio Los Cármenes.

Black Stars' defender Jonathan Mensah was a pillar at the Granada defence.

Italy:

Sulley Muntari's 45th minute long range effort proved vital for Inter as they won 1-0 at Genoa.

Muntari started the game from the bench as he replaced Esteban Cambiasso who picked an injury after 19 minutes.

Ghana youth striker Richmond Boakye-Yiadom was a 78th minute substitute for Genoa.

Kevin-Prince Boateng gained an automatic in AC Milan's surprise defeat at the San Siro to Juventus in a 2-1 reverse.

Kevin was booked on the 39th minute for a rough challenge and was subbed after 70 minutes.

In the Serie B, Ahmed Ampimah Barusso scored on his first start for Livorno in their 3-0 romping over Reggina.

Barusso doubled Livorno's advantage after 78 minutes scoring from close range.

However, AC Milan loanee Dominic Adiyiah was out of the Reggina first team side.

Germany:

Charles Takyi was left out of St. Pauli's first team squad that lost 1-3 to Frankfurt.

Left-back Hans Adu-Sarpei was absent from the Schalke 04 set-up which suffered a 1-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.

Isaac Boakye was not selected for Nurnberg's trip to Werder Bremen which saw them return with maximum points in a 3-2 win.

Elsewhere in the second tier league, Godfred Aduobe played a holding midfield role for Karlsruhe which lost 2-4 at home to 1860 Munich.

Holland:

Ajax recorded an emphatic victory over a Heracles Almelo side that featured combative midfielder Kwame Quansah.

Quansah's side were not able to withstand the Ajax's test as they slumped to a 4-1 defeat at home.

NAC Breda recorded their first win in four games at the expense of struggling De Graafschap at the Rat Verlegh Stadion.

Mathew Amoah came close to scoring in the early stages of the game when his five-yard header was parried away.

Fred Benson scored the consolation for RKC Waalwijk in their 2-1 home defeat in the second-tier League.

Gideon Boateng also scored the consolation for MVV Maastricht in their 1-2 home loss to AGOVV Apeldorn.

AZ Alkmaar loanee Edwin Gyasi continued to impress for Telstar Ijmuiden as he scored the consolation against Cambuur Leeuwarden in their 2-1 loss.

Portugal:

David Addy missed Academica de Coimbra's 1-0 defeat to his parent FC Porto at the Cidade de Coimbra due to suspension.

Belgium:

Akwettey Mensah was not selected for Lierse SK's trip to Eupen that earned them a point after drawing 1-1.

William Owusu-Acheampong maintained his place in the Cercle Brugge first team but he could not help them overturn a 2-1 defeat at KVC Westerlo.

Dennis Odoi played full throttle for St. Truiden which held Germinal Beerschot to a scoreless draw.

Switzerland:

Samuel Inkoom was replaced after 76 minutes for FC Basel in their 3-1 win over a Bellizona side which featured Mark Edusei.

Israel:

Hapoel Ashkelon's goalkeeper Stephen Ahorlu picked four goals from his net against Maccabi Netanya.

Hapoel Ashkelon was featured Abdul Osman and former Hearts of Oak striker Eric Gawu.

Former Ghana midfielder Ibrahim Razak helped Hapoel Acco to record a 3-0 win over Hapoel Kiryat Shmona.

But former Hearts of Oak striker Abdul Samad Okocha sat on the bench for Hapoel Acco.
