The Ghana FA says it is expecting payment of outstanding sponsorship monies for the Premier League next week.

Teams in the Ghanaian top flight are angry over the failure of telecommunication giants Globacom to meet its payment schedule for being the headline sponsor of the Premier League.

The Premier League is supposed to be paid $3m every year to be shared amongst the clubs and also to take care of other logistical and administrative procedures in running the league.

Glo have however failed to honour its commitment in recent times which has resulted in some of the clubs calling for the immediate abrogation of the contract with the Ghana FA.

The football association has however urged further restraint with indication from the league sponsor that outstanding monies will be paid next week ahead of the start of the new season.

“I can assure you that the GFA is in constant touch with the league sponsor and they have indicated to me yesterday that by next week the issue of outstanding monies will be history,” Ghana FA boss Kwasi Nyantakyi said.

“In other words outstanding sponsorship fees will be honoured. Therefore I will urge you to cease fire for now.

“It is when teams get these sponsorship monies that they are able to raise competitive teams for the league so we hope this issue is dealt with soon in order for us to have a more exciting competition.”

The new Premier League season is expected to commence on October 7.
