The Premier League Board will go ahead with their plans to officially crown Asante Kotoko as champions this weekend despite the emergence of a disciplinary case which could affect the standings.
The unassailable lead of the Porcupine Warriors on top of the Premier League has come under threat following a protest against Aduana Stars which could see second-placed Heart of Lions gain points.
The situation threatens to stall the official coronation of the Porcupine Warriors as champions of the Ghana Premier League for the third successive time in thus Sundayââ¬â¢s epic game against rivals Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium.
But the Premier League Board says it will go ahead with its plans to stage the coronation in the event Kotoko beats Hearts which will render the pending protest irrelevant.
ââ¬ÅWe have planned to hold the coronation in this Sundayââ¬â¢s clash between Kotoko and Hearts in Kumasi,â⬠Premier League Board boss Welbeck Abra-Appiah told Metro FM.
ââ¬ÅBut a protest lodged by Medeama against Aduana Stars has made things a bit difficult as the outcome of that protest could have an effect on the league standings â⬓ meaning Kotoko cannot be declared champions yet.
ââ¬ÅWe will however go ahead with our plans for the coronation so that in the event Kotoko beats Heartsà on Sunday, regardless of the outcome of the protest, Kotoko will be crowned champions.
ââ¬ÅBut if that doesnââ¬â¢t happen, then it means we will have to postpone the coronation.
ââ¬ÅWe will not show the trophy until the outcome of the match. If Kotoko wins, they get their cup. If they donââ¬â¢t, then the ceremony will be postponed.ââ¬
