The leadership crisis at Kotoko is entrenching as Nana Kwame Dankwah was told he had not been delegated to sit through a Ghana Premier League Board meeting on Monday in Accra.
Head coach Didi Dramani issued directive from London, appointing an International Transfer Certificate expert from the Ghana Football Association to represent the Ghana champions at the meeting.
But Nana Kwame, one of the staunch defenders of the departed Dr KK Sarpong, showed up at the meeting at the Ghana Football Association’s headquarters in Accra.
He was told by PLB officials he had not been authorised by the Kumasi-based side to represent them at the meeting and he eventually left the scene.
“Coach Dramani being a CAF expert issued directives from London and selected someone from the GFA who is an ITC expert to represent Kotoko,” Opoku Nti, the seemingly administrative head of the club confirmed to Asempa FM.
Despite reports of Kotoko’s board being dissolved by the Otumfour – the club’s Life Patron, members congregated in Kumasi on Saturday to discuss way forward for the club.
The reported dissolution installed club legend Opoku Nti as interim leader of the club while the board still insists a four-member leadership team has been instituted to take temporary charge of things before a instructions come from Manhyia.
On Tuesday morning, a woman claiming to be a family member of a founding member of Kotoko, wants to claim a share of the club’s royalty rights but has said she and her family have not been allowed to the Manhyia Palace to see the Otumfour.
She claims the club was founded by her grandfather who entrusted it into the hands of the Otumfour who is the leader of the Ashanti people but they now feel brushed aside and want to have a say in the running of club.
DR Sarpong, a former Head of Ghana’s Tema Oil Refinery, quit the last club last month after perpetual pressures and harassment from fans over his leadership style.
In an intensed period, the Ghana Football Association President, Kwasi Nyantakyi dabbled into the issues and rowed with Kwame Baah Nuako, the club’s International Relations Officer who has resigned from the club due to latest happenings.
The Ethics Committee of the Ghana FA forcing both men to eat back their words and apologise after appearing before it.
Fans are obviously at a loss as to who is in charge at Kotoko and waiting to hear an announcement from Manhyia.
