Portugal striker Hugo Almeida has expressed his respect for Ghana ahead of their 2014 World Cup Group G meeting on 26 June in Brasilia.

The Besiktas forward believes the Black Stars have 'great' players in the major European leagues.

Almeida also points to Ghana's scintillating display at the last World Cup finals in South Africa where they narrowly missed qualification to a semi-final stage.

The team of the Quinas will be facing  the Black Stars for the first time in the finals of a World Cup.

"Ghana has great players who play in European football and have shown in the last World Cup that they are a team to be reckoned with," the 29-year-old said.

Portugal will begin their campaign against Germany on 16 June before engaging USA, a side they lost 3-2 to at the Group stage of the 2002 finals in South Korea and Japan.

"It was a draw where they were the best teams in the world, it is obvious that we would not expect easy teams," Almeida added.

"We are in a difficult group and with great teams. Germany is one of the major candidates for final victory of the tournament, a selection of great tradition in the World Cup.

"The United States also has a selection of great players, the last time we faced them was a bad result for us and we have to be very careful with them."
