Ghana legend Mohammed Polo has taken a stinging potshot at Kevin-Prince Boateng, branding him as an unpatriotic player who must be ignored for next week’s World Cup playoffs against Egypt.
There is massive uncertainty over his potential involvement in the crucial playoffs against the Pharaohs at the Baba Yara stadium with another injury concern.
The Schalke 04 enforcer picked up the latest problem during their 4-1 win over Augsburg in the German Bundesliga to put his return to the Black Stars against the North Africans into serious doubt.
Even though the Ghana FA has insisted he is very much part of coach Kwesi Appiah’s plans for the game, reports of him not being available is just refusing to wash-away in the media.
His Black Stars teammates and close friend Andre Ayew gave some form of weight to the growing reports when he told reporters on arrival in Ghana Monday night that Boateng was heartbroken with the prospect of missing the first leg encounter in Kumasi.
But controversial ex-Hearts great Mohammed Polo, who has been an avid critic of the ex-German youth international, wants Kwesi Appiah to gather the courage to sack him from the team.
“I have spoken about this boy for quite a long time now and it looks very clear that he (K.P Boateng) is not patriotic” Polo told Radio XYZ
“However your mother looks like, she is still your mother and you can’t change her. Sometimes I am made to doubt if this boy is a true Ghanaian.
“Despite the fact that he was born to Ghanaian parents I think he is not behaving like one.
“He wasn’t known until we gave him the platform in the 2010 World Cup but he doesn’t want to reciprocate that love by playing for Ghana”
“How many times will we (Ghana) be watching as he stays away from matches in Kumasi? he asked
“Twice in a row he has opted to stay out of the team and how long are we going to condone such a behavior.
“I think enough is enough and we must sack him from the team because he can’t choose the matches he wants to play period. ”he concluded
Even though Schalke is yet to make the result of his test available, there are those who believe the poor nature of the pitch could have influenced his decision to potentially pull out of the game.
