Ghana defender Harrison Afful insists playing in a midfield role is not new to him.
The lateral defender was deployed in an unfamiliar midfield role in the 3-1 defeat to Japan in an international friendly on Tuesday.
Many showever claim Ghana’s woes were compounded against the swift Japanese becuase the Esperance defender was played out of position.
But Afful has revealed playing in midfield on Tuesday is not a novelty in his career.
“It is not a new task for me because back in Feyenoord I used to play a similar role,” he told Peace FM.
“As a professional footballer I listen to the coach both on and off the field of play so as to get what exactly I am supposed to do.
“Even at Esperance sometimes I am shifted into the midfield so it is nothing new to me.”
Afful is however expected to be shifted back to his natural lateral defensive role the next time lines up for the Black Stars.
