PICTURES: Scouts invade Mampong as Waekese wins Tigo Community Soccer

The Ghana Football Association’s endorsement of Tigo Community Soccer as a great platform to discover talent sent football agents and soccer scouts to the Mampong Municipal Area to trade in footballers.

Waekese won the sixteen team competition after beating Esikafo Ambaentem in the hotly contested final match. Mampong Newtown finished in third place.

 

At least 240 footballers in the Mammpong Municipal area took part in the two day knockout tourney which also observed the International Peace and Sport Day by raising white cards as a tribute to World peace.

Scouts from BA United, Bechem United, AS Monaco Academy and Hasaacas were all present at the games looking out for the next big talent to come out of Mampong.

Bechem United scout Bishop John Kweku Wusu  said Ghana has too much talent walking the streets and if harnessed properly the country could make more in a one year than the revenue from cocoa.

“When players make it in football especially in Europe they will earn more money than cocoa gives Ghana. Look at the exceptional talent on display in this town. Many can play in Europe. These are future Black Stars players.” Bishop said.

At least six players were scouted and sale agreements concluded in principle by the time the tournament ended on Sunday.

Aside the splendid football, the Mampong community also benefited from a blood donation exercise and health screening campaign where patients enjoyed free medical attention and advice for ailments.

A medical team from the Mampong General Hospital advised patients who had hypertension, low HB and high sugar levels after undergoing glucose tests.

Ernest Agbedanu, the Brand Image Specialist of Tigo in the Asanti Region said “now it is clear that Tigo is the most caring brand in this country. We have come to a municipality like Mampong which is in love with football. So we provide the Tigo Community Soccer tourney to take care of the passion of the people. But how about the health of the people? How about their strength? Tigo’s Care for you campaign then decided to put together the health screening and blood donation activities with the football so there can be holistic care. And that is why there are so many people here,” Agbedanu concluded.

Municpal Chief Executive  of Mampong,  Mohammed Kojo Aboasu who presided over the medal ceremony said: "This Tigo Community Soccer event brings honour to Mampong. Our players are very talented and I know some will definitely make it to the heights of World football. For the players, they should work hard and believe one day they will have opportunities,” concluded Mr. Aboasu.

The next stop for the Tigo Communioty Soccer tourney will be in Sunyani where yet again sixteen teams from the municipal area will be in competition to determine the Champion of Sunyani.
