A leading football newspaper in Ghana has apologised after it published the wrong picture of a little boy claiming he is the son of Real Madrid star Michael Essien.

90 Minutes this week published a picture of Michael Essien with a lightskinned boy claiming the boy is the son of the midfield powerhouse.

But it has emerged that the newspaper carried the wrong picture which has drawn some controversy.

The picture published by 90 Minutes is actually that of Malik Pimpong, the son of Razak Pimpong, who is a close firend of Essien after both played for Ghana's national team from the U17 level to the Black Stars.

The original picture shows Essien sitting with Malik and Razak but it happened that the latter was cropped out of the picture accidentally.

This has resulted in 90 Minutes issuing an apology to Essien.

This comes after Essien complained about it on social media which drew 90 Minutes' attention to the mistake.

The Real Madrid has accepted the apology from the often reliable newspaper and has decided to move on from the issue.
