Hearts defender Philip Boampong has issued a groveling apology to the fans for abandoning the club in search of greener pastures.

The centre-back only re-joined the side after failing a trial session with American Major League side Chicago Fire.

The 24-year-old is yet to feature for the side since he returned from his botched trip.

The former Ghana Under-20 strong defender feels sorry for his decision to leave for trials at the time that the Accra side needed his services.

“I want to apologise to the fans that I left for US,” he said

“I left without telling anybody but it wasn’t intentional. It was something which needed to be done.

“I am glad to be back and looking forward to playing a role in the remaining matches.

“I know the fans love me and they will forgive me. They (fans) know what I can do and so they should pray for me.”

Hearts trail leaders Kotoko by 12 points.
