Hearts of Oak say Philemon McCarthy will assume the leadership of the team in the absence of substantive captain Moro Abubakar.

The club captain is set to undergo surgery on an unspecified injury and will be out for at least two months.

Philemon McCarthy, according Hearts of Oak chief Neil Armstrong Mortagbe is the next in line in the team’s hierarchical ladder.

“Philemon McCarthy has been captaining the team in the absence of Moro,” Mortgabe said at a press conference on Tuesday.

“There is a hierarchy [system] and it follows in that order.”

Hearts will be hosting struggling Ebusua Dwarfs in their Week 18 Premier League fixture of the Premier League on Wednesday.

The Phobians are desperate to return to winning ways before their home fans at the Accra Sports Stadium following their 3-0 thrashing suffered at the hands of Wa All Stars in their last home match.
