Peter Essien: Berekm Arsenals are ‘really down’ after Amidaus defeat

Published on: 12 November 2012

Peter Essien is shocked at the downward spiral of Berekum Arsenals in the seven -week old Ghana Premier League.

The gunners were left bitterly disappointed after they suffered their fourth defeat of the season, going down 1-0 at newly promoted Amidaus Professionals.

Anthony Allotey’s men fell behind in the 66th minute at the Tema sports stadium when Selasi Adjei slotted home after Rasheed Muntawaki could only parry Yahaya Mohammed’s shot into the striker’s path.

The Berekum-based side battled hard to equalize but were left frustrated by a well-organised Amidaus side.

And striker Essien could not hide his frustration after the defeat, which leaves the Gunners languishing at the bottom of the table.

“We are really down because we expected to win the game. But Amidaus raised their game and made it difficult for us,” Essien said

“I don’t know what is happening to us. We play all the beautiful game but we’re unable to win.

“I am shocked. Something must be terribly wrong somewhere. We are still confident of beating the drop.

“We have only played seven matches and the points build up are not much.”

Arsenals will host Ashantigold in their next fixture at the Golden City Park on November 25.
