Pantsil targets Sudan win as tonic for 2012 Nations Cup truimph

Posted On Friday, 29th July 2011

John Pantsil of Ghana in action during the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Quarter Final match between Uruguay and Ghana at the Soccer City stadium on July 2, 2010 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Ghana defender John Pantsil believes victory over Sudan in the final 2012 Nations Cup qualifier will set the tone for winning the continental championship.

The Black Stars are on top of the Group I table with superior goal difference having tied on points with the Nile Crocodiles.

Sudan held Ghana to a scoreless stalemate at the Baba Yara Stadium last October and have been very impressive in the qualifying rounds.

Pantsil, who recently signed for English Npower Championship side Leicester City, believes snatching a win in Kharthoum this October will boost their credentials as would-be champions.

“Sudan have given us a tough time in this qualifier and you know what separates us from them is superior goal aggregate. We must beat them in Sudan to show that we are ready for the Nations Cup” Pantsil told Accra-based Happy FM.

Ghana are the bookmakers’ favourites to win the 2012 Nations Cup slated for next January in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

The Black Stars have not won the Nations Cup since 1982.
