John Pantsil was in fine form for Hapoel against Academica
By Patrick Akoto
John Pantsil saw full action for Hapoel Tel Aviv in their 1-1 draw at Academica in the Uefa Europa League second group B match on Thursday night.
The 30-year-old put up a solid performance at the back as Omer Damari headed home a 92nd minute equalizer to hand the Israeli giants a precious point in Portugal.
Both sides needed to win desperately after they suffered defeats in their opening group matches.
Salim Cissé’s sensational effort two minutes into the second period looked like being enough for the home side, but amid mounting late pressure they eventually cracked as the visitors denied them their first European win 43 years.
Pantsil will be expected to play for Hapoel against Ashdod in the Israeli League on Saturday before he flies out to the Black Stars camping base in Kenya.
The experienced right back is likely to be handed the armband for the crucial return leg of the 2013 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Malawi on October 13.
HE HAD A NORMAL GAME. PAINSTIL WAS MARKING CISSE WHEN HE SCORED. PAINSTIL COULD HAVE DONE A MUCH BETTER JOB TO PREVENT THE GOAL. ASK HIM WHY HE DIDNT. HE IS VERY LUCKY HIS TEAM WERE ABLE TO EQUALISE…LIKE I SAID, HE WONT LAST THE ENTIRE SEASON OVER THERE…..HE SHOULD GO TO SWEDEN OR SAUDI OR MLS OR CHINA WHILES HE STILL CAN PLAY.
