Paintsil should be stripped off high rank in Black Stars - critics

John Paintsil is in danger of getting stripped off his leadership role in the Black Stars after allegedly assaulting his wife on Friday.

The 31-year-old was arrested by the Police upon a neighbor’s official complaint after detecting the domestic altercation between the couple.

Paintsil was reported to have hit out at his wife, Richlove following her persistent inquest into ‘false’ allegations of infidelity on the part of the Hapoel Tel Aviv right-back.

The ex Fulham player has been accused of breaking camp rules by bedding prostitutes at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The allegation vehemently denied by the Ghana FA and the player appears to be putting immense strain on the marriage – leading to Friday’s fracas.

Paintsil’s disappointing reaction to his wife’s persistent inquest has been heavily criticized by many who expect better of the role model.

Some are now making calls to have the regarded deputy captain of the Black Stars discounted as his conduct sets a bad example of leadership.

Paintsil who is one of the faces of Ghana's educational campaign; 'One Goal' emerged one of the leading players in the Black Stars team during the 2013 Nations Cup.

He is acclaimed as a symbol of calm and inspiration by his teammates especially the young ones in South Africa.

His reputation from which he commands a lot of respect is now suspect following his recent problems.

He has now emerged a clear target for ridicule amongst his teammates and must not continue to occupy a high rank in the Black Stars – the critics have argued.

It is unclear at this point whether the Ghana FA will indeed consider these suggestions being made with the intent of protecting the public image of the national team.

Several world class athletes have had their professional and commercial relationships with reputable firms cancelled for engaging in social vices including assault.

These firms pull the plugs on these lucrative deals in order to protect their brands associated with icons suddenly gone bad.
