Orlando Pirates defender Lucky Lekgwathi has encouraged Fatau Dauda to keep fighting for his spot in his team with just three months to the start of the 2014 World Cup.

The Ghana goalkeeper has only made one start since joining the South African club from AshantiGold at the start of the season.

Dauda’s lack of regular games has been a source of major concerns for many Ghanaians with the World Cup drawing closer.

The 28-year-old was the man behind the sticks for the Black Stars throughout the successful qualifiers to the tournament being staged in Brazil.

Many however believe Dauda ought not to be Ghana’s first choice at the World Cup due to his extended bench warming duties at Orlando Pirates.

But the Ghanaian’s club teammate Lekgwathi wants the beleaguered goalkeeper to keep fighting in his bid to dethrone Senzo Meyiwa as the side’s first choice.

“Dauda is my roommate, so we motivate each other,” Lekgwathi revealed.

“We get to training early and we work hard. I talk to him all the time.

“I always tell him to keep his head up and any chance he gets he must take it. The chances will come.”

Dauda was dropped by coach Kwesi Appiah for Ghana’s friendly match against Montenegro earlier this month.

They are however very strong indication that he will make the Black Stars squad for the 2014 World Cup with the only uncertainty now being whether he will continue to be the first choice for Ghana.
