Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo says he’s learnt valuable lessons from Fatau Fatau as he aims to make the position his personal commodity.

The Buccaneers are still in the market for a new goalkeeper following the passing of Senzo Meyiwa a few months ago, with the likes of Siyabonga Mpontshane, Wayne Sandilands and Anssi Jaakkola mentioned as possible arrivals.

But Mhlongo, who was named Man of the Match as Pirates beat Bloemfontein Celtic 2-0 on Saturday evening, says any new arrival must be prepared to fight for the jersey as he has learnt from other goalkeepers including Ghana’s Fatau Dauda.

"I don't think about who is linked to the team. My focus is doing well for the team and enjoying football. It's about the team,” he said

“I welcome anyone who comes to the team; it creates healthy competition and it will help me grow.”

“I have seen so many things at this club – trophies and successes, but all from the bench. I would like to do it from on the pitch,” he added.

“I have learnt from Moeneeb [Josephs], Senzo, [Fatau] Dauda … all these keepers with great experience. I want to be counted for the next generation.”
