Orlando Pirates coach Vladimir Vermezovic has refused to blame Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda for the shock 1-0 defeat to Mpumalanga Black Aces on Wednesday.

The Black Stars goalkeeper tasted a bitter defeat in just his second start for the Bucs since his arrival at the beginning of the season.

Pirates fell to an 80th minute strike by Thulasizwe Mbuyane to break their three-game undefeated run.

The defeat means Pirates have never won with the Ghana goalkeeper in post.

Dauda only got the rare start following the suspension to regular Senzo Meyiwa.

The ex AshantiGold shot-stopper however failed to keep a clean sheet to make a strong case for a starting role with barely two months to the start of the World Cup.

But coach Vermezovi? says Dauda is not to be blamed for the defeat but stated clearly he is only a support to regular Senxo Meyiwa.

"I can't complain about Dauda, he did a good job today,” he said after defeat.

“But Senzo is number 1. We must also prepare Dauda for World Cup."

Dauda will now be hoping to make Ghana’s squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil following calls to have him dropped due to his extended bench warming duties at club level.

The 28-year-old was however the first choice for the Black Stars throughout the successful qualifying campaign and therefore is likely to make the final cut for June’s finals.

He will however need to move from the South Africa giants if his status does not improve after the World Cup when the transfer window opens.
