Orlando Pirates chase Ghana defender Awal Mohammed

Posted On Wednesday, 2nd January 2013

Orlando Pirates could sign Maritzburg United defender Mohammed Awal

Orlando Pirates could sign Maritzburg United defender Mohammed Awal during the January transfer window period.

Pirates are on the lookout for a central defender and Awal, who has been in fine form for United and has made it into Ghana’s provisional squad ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, appears to be their target.

Zambian midfielder Rainford Kalaba has already been linked with a move from TP Mazembe to join Bucs.

According to a source at Pirates, the club has already engaged both United and the player in bid to sign him.

“Kalaba and Awal remain our targets during this transfer window period. The player is keen to join Pirates but it all will depend on whether Maritzburg United agree to release him during the January transfer window period,” says the source.

United boss Farouk Kadodia sounded cagey when asked about the chances of the player joining Pirates in January.

“I can’t comment. Why don’t you call Pirates? Please call Pirates,” says Kadodia.

Gh Fuo Think Big, you make too much noise here. In what way is Awal a quality player and Solo Asante and Kissi Boateng are not? I bet you have never seen these guys play before. Thankfully Solomon Asante and Kissi Boateng will let you eat your words one day. And thankfully you are not the Black Stars coach. So Solomon Asante Kissi Boateng should treat your words with pinches of salt.
