Sadio Mané will be assessed by Senegal's medical team on Sunday following his inclusion on the final Senegal national football squad for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations from 17th January to 8th February in Equatorial Guinea.

The winger was substituted shortly after scoring in Southampton’s 2-0 win over Arsenal on New Year’s Day with calf injury but was surprisingly included in Alain Giresse’s squad, with the first game on Monday 19th January.

The 22 year-old currently playing for English side Southampton is yet to group with Senegal at their training camp in Morocco on Sunday, where Giresse and his staff will make a final decision whether the player is fit to take part in the continental showpiece.

Saints boss Ronald Koeman originally thought Mané would be ruled out of the competition, but later provided an update on Southampton’s official YouTube channel on Friday.

''Maybe he will be a little bit faster getting to 100 per cent than we expected in the beginning but he is still injured. He’s still doing an individual programme with the medical staff but we know he has to visit the medical staff of Senegal. Normally they will keep him and, if he is ready – for which date I don’t know – then they can use him," Koeman said.

The Lions of Teranga who are making their 13th appearance at the finals, face Ghana on 19th January, South Africa on 23rd January and Algeria on 27th January, all in group C. The top in each of the four groups will progress to the quarter-finals.
