I hear a lot of people talk about a crisis in Ghana’s goalkeeping department much that there are calls to have Richard Kingson back. Really?!
And the worse thing is that, people think we are out of options.
Not that Richard Kingson is a bad bet but that 99.99 percent of those making these calls have not seen the 35-year-old in action for his Cypriot club Doxa.
So this is clearly a case of ‘call him because of what he has done before’ – Black Stars invites by reputation – then we might as well invite Laryea Kingston, Dan Quaye and John Mensah, they have all done the job well before.
But no. If the national team is the amalgamation of the best available players then they can’t be close to even being considered. What will be the basis?
Now back to the point of a goalkeeping crisis, a subject which really makes me laugh out loud. Unless of course for those who don’t have eyes.
Yes, I agree Fatawu Dauda has lost some sharpness over his inactive club career but I have argued earlier it’s too early to be conclusive on him but then if we are really to make an SOS call, surely we wouldn’t be lost on options.
Have you seen Isaac Amoako and Tetteh Lugard lately?
Well, I think they have earned a call up to the national team.
Both have played two game in the Ghanian top flight and have conceded a goal each but that is not what excites me.
Not that all of them should be called at once, but certainly one of them deserve a call. Then and only then we will be rewarding performance and hardwork, not mediocrity.
For those who saw the Hearts v Kotoko over the weekend, the evidence is crystal clear.
Both keepers saved everything thrown to them [lucky at times I must admit] especially for Amoako who earned his wages especially late in the game.
One can also not rule out Lugard’s performance. His timings, his tackles and aerial challenges were spot on. You can never blame him for the superb Siedu Bancey strike.
Maybe I am getting ahead of myself with this two goalkeepers after just two rounds of game but in essence, it takes just a minute to show you are quality and given the chance, you might excel.
I only hope the technical handlers are keeping an eye on these – in my view – quality goalkeepers who I strongly believe can be of help to the Black Stars if indeed we believe we have a serious problem with goalkeeping.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..I howerver don’t understand why the Ghana FA will allow Premier League clubs to register national team kits as their official strips.
This is very shameful to not only the clubs but to the Ghana FA and if they are sleeping on it, please wake up to save us further embarassment.
