Striker Yakubu Mohammed has agreed to stay at Ashantigold until 2014 after signing a two-year extension to his contract.

The 23-year-old has finally put pen-to-paper after he rejected an initial offer to stay at the Obuasi-based club.

He opted to extend his stay after failing to tie down a permanent deal with an unnamed Egyptian side.

The former Heart of Lions man is one of the most sought after strikers in the country and news of his decision to stay on will provide a real boost to coach Yaw Acheampng as he begins the task of strengthening his team.

Yakubu, who finished last season’s Ghana Premier League second top scorer with 16 goals, has previously rejected offers from Tunisian duo CS Sfaxien and Etoile du Sahel.

Mohammed is stocky, extremely strong and and has the ability to create chances and known for scoring some spectacular goals including free kicks, over-head-kicks and stunning volleys.

He also possesses an impressive leaping power, which makes it difficult to handle him in the air.
