Enugu Rangers Football Club have denied receiving any cash from the Ghana League Club Association (GHALCA) either as payment or in full for the money due them for participating in last year’s Presidential cup.
Contrary to claims that $9,000 loan secured by GHALCA to make an urgent payment to Rangers, the club said they had not received any money, although they had made unsuccessful efforts in the past to have the money paid.
The Media Officer of Rangers, Forster Chime, told the Graphic Sports: “We have not received a dime from the organizers of the President’s cup in Ghana.
“I don’t know if any money has been advanced to us as we speak right now. But so far as our records show, we have not recieved any money from GHALCA either in cash or in cheque. As far as we know, GHALCA has to pay us $30,000.â€
Mr. Chime said after a fruitless effort to get the money paid, the club had petitioned Ghana Football Association (GFA) through the Nigerian Football Federation over the issue, as they considered it a breach of trust. But to date, they were get to get any feedback.
He was happy that their issue was receiving an attention in Ghanaian media as the diplomatic means employed to had not yielded the desired results.
The denial by the club’s media officer raises more questions over the whereabouts of the money. Last Sunday, one of the men named in securing the loan, George Amoako, the GHALCA Treasure, told the Graphic Sports he only facilitated the withdrawal of the money and handed it over to the chairman, Alhaji Ali Raji, who allegedly placed an urgent call to Mr Amoako for the loan to be contracted from the GFA.
Meanwhile, a member of GHALCA Executive Council, Albert Commey, who confirmed the Graphic Sports’ exclusive last Friday, said he was shocked by the revelations and said he was even more convinced that the issue should be thoroughly investigated.
He denied that a three-man committee had been set up to investigate the matter and said he still stood by his call that the two men at the centre of the issue must step aside. Last Friday’s Graphic Sports reported that the GHALCA chairman and its treasure had contracted a $9,000 loan from the FA without approval and without the knowledge of the other members of the Executive Council.
