Niger will be the most difficult AFCON match for Ghana - Coach Appiah

Posted On Saturday, 26th January 2013

Kwesi Appiah expects Niger to be tough customers for his team

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah claims Niger will be the real test for his team at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars, who top Group B with four points, are highly tipped to beat the Mena in their final match on Monday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Niger lost to Mali in their opening match but put up a brave fight to draw 0-0 with DR Congo in their second Group match.

Appiah feels his opposite number Gernot Rohr has built a strong squad capable of causing havoc.

“We have played two games and for me, our next game is the most difficult one,” Appiah said at Saturday’s pre-match conference.

“Looking at the Niger team, they are tactically very disciplined and I see it as a game that will be very difficult for us and for that reason we need to prepare very well for that game.”

Ghana will be without the services of midfielder Mubarak Wakaso who is serving a one-match ban due to card suspension.

  1. Viper says:

Don’t make me laugh, as someone said,Niger midfield is virtually non existent, if we don’t pass and move the ball and control the game for the 90 minutes, it will certainly be our most difficult. In our two matches we have played,we dropped off and allowed Congo and Mali to control and move the ball as they will, this can’t happen against Niger, can it? We have to dominate the game and score as many goals. We have to be serious and separate the grains from the chaffs

  2. Nana Yaa says:

In present day soccer there are no chaffs! If Cape Verde was able to take out Senegal and beat Egypt, then dont be surprised if Niger beats Ghana. Thats why I agree with the coach; it will be a difficult match. We need to field a strong team and play very well. Niger midfield may be non existent but they play as a team! A word to the wise!

  3. selfmade says:

Everyday all that i hear from this coach is tactical discipline or tactically undisciplined!!!! Damn, are those words he can only say or what!!! Checked this one out……. against lesotho doing the interview, appiah said ohh our boys were tactically discipline!!! …. against malawi during kwabena yeboahs interview,he said the malawians were tactically discipline!!! Against dr congo,he said Ghana drew with them because of tactical indisciplined!!! Haba appiah say something else and go beat these bunch of fulani nigerinans and stop disturbing our ears with these your tactical discipline shit!!!!! Viva the revolutionciooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

  4. GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

WHITE VS BLACKMAN…JAMES AA VS WHITE COACH….LOL
HW3, THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE BLACKMAN N WHITE MAN IS RESEARCH N NYANSA.
THIS IS HOW STUPID THE BLACK MAN IS…LET THRE BE A ROAD WITH NAILS IN IT. THE WHITEMAN WILL SAY. WAIT. LETS GET OUT ALL THE NAILS BEFORE
WE PROCEED WITH OUR VEHICLE BECAUSE WE DONT WANT OUR TYRES TO BUST. THE BLACKMAN ON THE OTHERHAND WILL PERSIST ON THIS SAME ROAD UNTIL HIS
TYRES ARE DESTROYED. THEN, HE WILL SPEND MONEY TO BUY NEW TYRES AND MORE MONEY TO REMOVE THE NAILS.
THIS IS THE SAME SCENARIO WITH THE NUMBER 2, NUMBER 3 NUMBER 7 AND NUMBER 11 SPOTS. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY AA IS HELL BENT ON USING KASA AT THE 3,
AFFUL AT THE 3, ATSU AT THE 11. WAKASO AT THE 3. WAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT AA? EITHER HE IS VERY STUPID AND CONSTIPATED MENTALLY OR HE SIMPLY DOES
NOT KNOW WAT HE IS DOING. AFFUL NEVER PLAYS 3 WITH HIS CLUB. HE ALWAYS PLAYS THE 2. WAKASSO WAS A LEFT BACK FOR GH AT THE YOUTH LEVEL AND EXCELL
ED. KASA PLAYS LEFT MIDFIELD FOR JUVE AND OVELAPS ON THE LEFT, WITH CROSSES FOR GOALS AT JUVE. ATSU HAS EVEN PLAYED THE RIGHT FLANK FOR FC PORTO
ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL. THEREFORE, WAT AA SHOULD DI IS THIS. PLAY AFFUL AT THE 2. WAKASSO AT THE 3. KASA AT THE 11 AND
ASTU AT THE 7. THIS IS THE SIMPLE SCIENCE, JAMES AA.

    AGAINST NIGER…
WE CAN BEAT NIGER EASILY. THEY ONLY HAVE 3 DECENT PLAYERS. THEIR ATTACK N MIDFIELD ARE NON CONSISTENT. THEIR DEFENCE HAS LOOPHOLES.
DANKOWA, MOUSSA, AND CHICOTO ARE THEIR ONLY DECENT PLAYERS. IF U NEUTRALISE THEIR CAPTAIN IN ATTACK, AND CONCENTRATE ON NEUTRALIZING DANKWA
IN DEFENCE, NIGER ARE IMPOTENT. AA SHOULD START ASANTE ON THE WING AND KISSI AT LEFT BACK. PERFECT TIME FOR AA TO USE AFFUL ON THE RIGHT AND
KASA ON THE 11. AA SHOULD START PLAYERS LIKE CLOTTEY, YIADOM SO THEY CAN BUILD THEIR CONFIDENCE GOING INTO THE QUARTERS. WE SHOULD GET AT LEAST
    3 GOALS HERE
