Niger midfielder Issiakou Koudize will face a late fitness test
Niger midfielder Issiakou Koudize will face a late fitness test ahead of Monday’s must-win Africa Cup of Nations Group B clash against Ghana here.
The AS Garde Nationale of Niamey defensive midfielder suffered a knee injury in his team’s scoreless game against DR Congo two days ago.
“Koudize is nursing a knee injury he picked up in the game against the DRC,” team spokesman Mohamed Selemine told AFP.
“The doctors are working on him and we will know only next week if he will be fit for the Ghana match.”
The 22-year-old is featuring in his second Nations Cup after starring at last year’s competition in Gabon/Equatorial Guinea.
He was outstanding Thursday as Niger held out for a 0-0 draw with DRC to record their first Cup of Nations point after four straight losses spanning the 2012 and 2013 tournaments.
Too bad another casualty of crunching African football reckless tackles. There are too many of these injuries ruining the careers of Africa’s best footballers. You can play great beautiful football with good clean tackles. Some of the players are tackling with the intent to take out the best players from the opposition. In my opinion that is cheating, bad sportsmanship and not good football. We are all Africans and we must protect our football assets. Everyone on the continent enjoys watching great football regardless of wether it is displayed by Gyan, Drogba, Aboutrika, Samuel Eto’o or past African players like Abedi Pele, Jay Jay Okocha, George Weah, Rashid Yekini ( God rest his soul) to name but a few. We set aside our differences and rejoice in the beauty of their game. We must protect our assets so when we go into the World Cup the five countries that represent Africa will have the best of their best and not have them fall casualty to the “grave yard” of African talent the African Cup of Nations! Due to injuries sustained from the reckless, crunching sometimes career ending tackles and resulting injuries. Long live African football.
