Nice terminate Quartey's contract

Posted On Tuesday, 31st January 2012

Jonathan Quartey has been sacked by French side OGC Nice

French club Nice have terminated the contract of Ghanaian defender Jonathan Quartey with 18 months remaining on his contract.

The deal to terminate his contract was reached by mutual consent.

The 23-year-old had a contract with the club until June 2013 but the agreement was reached because of the lack of playing time.

Quartey could not win a place in the first team since his arrival in Nice in 2009.

He could not even make the first 18 of the top-flight side this season which resulted in the decision to cancel his contract.

The Ghanaian is now free to look for a new club.

The defender joined Nice from South African side Kaizer Chiefs 2009 but he failed to impress which resulted in the decision to send him out on loan last term.

He was loaned to Turkish club Samsunspor last season without much success.

Quartey has nine caps for Ghana and his last call-up for the Black Stars was in November 2009 when they played Mali in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
