English side Newcastle will begin the process of seeking to sign Ghana midfielder Andre Ayew on Monday, a source close to the player has told GHANAsoccernet.com exclusively.

With the transfer window set to close before next week, the Premier League club are seeking to close the deal for clinch the talented player.

A source close to the player says Newcaslte will begin talks with Marseille today in their bid to capture the Ghana star.

The Magpies are intensifying their chase for the son of Ghana legend Abedi Pele after the Ghana international impressed Newcastle scouts over the weekend.

Newcastle scouts were at hand to monitor the winger when Marseille played Valenciennes at the Stade du Hainaut on Saturday night.

Magpies director of football Joe Kinnear was present with his eagle eyes on winger Andre Ayew as Marseille won 1-0.

Newcastle remain in pursuit of the winger prior to the summer transfer window closing.

Ayew has emerged as a potential candidate to make the move to St James’ Park as the Toon continue their love affair with players from the French Ligue 1.

The 23-year-old can play as a winger or a striker and has a decent scoring record for Marseilles, with 33 goals in the last three seasons. He is also a regular in the Ghana national team with four goals in 43 caps.
