Newcastle United sent their director of football Joe Kinear to watch Ghana winger Andre Ayew in action for Olympique Marseille on Saturday ahead of a proposed move to the Tyneside side.

Newcastle chief scout and director of football Kinnear was in the stands at the Stade du Hainaut in Valenciennes to see the 23-year-old in action for Les Olympians as they recorded a slim 1-0 win over Valenciennes in the French Ligue 1.

It was the former Ghana U20 skipper's assist that provided Marseille the only goal of the game.

Newcastle United are among a couple of English Premier League sides who have  been watching the wing-wizard and are set to make an offer for him.

Marseille will not block Ayew's move away from the Stade Velodrome but club President Vincent Labrune has insisted the influential winger would only be sold at the right price.

The French giants will ask Newcastle United to meet their €15 million price tag or forget about the winger.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is also monitoring the situation of the youngster who captained Ghana's U20 side to success at the 2009 FIFA U20 World Cup.
