New boss Rafael Benitez has reportedly asked Napoli to pursue a deal to bring Ghana forward Andre Ayew to the club this summer.

Benitez who takes over from Walter Mazzarri who has departed to take over the reins at Inter is plotting his new-look Napoli side capable of challenges for laurels next season.

The Blues are in need of a new talisman with mounting reports of an imminent departure of star striker Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguayan is being linked with several clubs in England with Manchester City and Chelsea the most talked off destination.

Benitez has thus asked Napoli’s board to sign Olympique Marseille star Andre Ayew to lessen the damage of Cavani’s departure on the team.

Ayew has grown in stature at the Velodrome – becoming one of the important players for manager Elie Baup.

The Ghana international might however want a new challenge after spending almost the whole of his football career in France.

Napoli’s qualification to the Champions League could also prove an extra incentive for Ayew.

It however remains to be seen if the Blues will be tabling an official bid to Marseille for their talismanic forward.
