The Adansi Community have resolved to mobilize funds to construct a stadium for Premier League club New Edubiase United.
The FA Cup champions have been using the Berkwai Park as their home grounds following their decision to move from the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium upon winning promotion to the top flight.
However, the Adansi South District Assembly believes it us time to bring back the club to its rightful community especially following their recent exploits.
The assembly had provided seed money of Ghc 20,000 (approximately $10, 556.88) but was expended on paying compensation to commuters on the land earmarked for the construction.
The assembly have however resolved again to use part of their allocated budget to provide seed money upon which contributions will be sought from individuals and corporate bodies to finance the construction which they hope will begin in October.
“The team have made us very proud with their performance and recent achievements and therefore it will be only proper to return them back to their rightful community and people,” District Chief Executive of Adansi South Benjamin Anwhere told Obuoba FM.
“Sports in particular football is increasingly becoming an important part of nation building and therefore we, the assembly, during our last sitting resolved to allocate funds to be used as seed money to construct a stadium in order for the New Edubiase team to return to Adansi.
“We will then ask individuals and corporate bodies especially people from this area in the diaspora and those in the big cities to contribute towards developing the area by way of the stadium construction.
“It hurts to see our team perform to the delight of many away from their traditional grounds, hence our determination to see through this construction which we hope will commence in October.”
Edubiase have gradually evolved from being pre-season relegation candidates to a formidable mid-table side since winning promotion to the Premier League three seasons ago.
Aside winning the FA Cup competition, the ‘Yenko Koaa’ club produced the top scorer of the Ghana Premier League, Emmanuel Baffour last season.
They will be representing Ghana in next season’s CAF Confederations Cup.
