New Edubiase president Abdul Salam Yakubu has kicked against a proposal to have the number of Premier League clubs increased from 16 to 18.

GHANAsoccernet.com revealed on Monday that there are plans to table the motion before Congress for its subsequent rectification and approval which will see the number of participating teams increased to 18.

The Ghana FA want to reach a compromise with King Faisal for out an court of settlement after the Kumasi-based side dragged the FA to the Accra High court.

The litigation has delayed the start of the Ghana Premier League and putting the calendar of the Premier League Board off board.

But New Edubiase president Abdul Salam Yakubu says attempts to increase the number will be unfortunate.

“I don’t know where the story is coming from but if it true then it will be very unfortunate,” he said

“We are even struggling financially with the 16-club league and so how do they intend to us help find money to play an 18-league system?

“It doesn’t make sense to me to be very honest with you. We have to focus on the 16 and make it better rather than increasing it.”

Faisal and Ebusua Dwarfs will benefit from the proposal if it is approved by Congress – the highest decision body of the Ghana FA.
