Controversial ex-Ghana midfielder Laryea Kingston claims players require ‘godfathers’ to earn call-up into the Black Stars.

The former Heart of Midlothian enforcer launched litany of allegations against the FA this week accusing them among other things of selecting players for coaches.

He claimed coaches do not call players on merit but are influenced by powerful personalities at the FA to call their ‘godsons’ in a move to find a middle ground to keep their jobs.

Falling short of providing evidence to back his claims, the ex-Hearts of Oak star claims players do not earn call-up on merit.

“You must have a ‘godfather’ for you to be called into the Black Stars. I have been there and I know what I’m talking about,” he told Ghanaian television station TV3.

“Those godfathers insist the coach call their players into the national team. This something which is happening and it’s the fact not allegation.

“Many of the players have godfathers at the FA and that is the only way for you to get a call-up into the team.”

Kingson however failed to provide concrete evidence to back the sweeping allegations which has dominated the Ghanaian media.

Kingston missed the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany after he was slapped with a sensational 4-match ban following an altercation with Senegalse Habib Beye.

He was again excluded from the 2010 World Cup squad by Serbian Milovan Rajevac, which many believe have made him bitter.
