NDC Will Capture Kennedy Agyapong's Constituency - Party Executives

Posted On Monday, 21st May 2012

The Assin North Constituency which has been the New Patriotic Party?s stronghold for the past 12 years would fall for the NDC in this year?s general elections, the NDC constituency executives have said.

The Assin North Constituency Chairman of the NDC, Mr James Kutin, said the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr Ken Agyepong, would definitely lose the parliamentary election due to his dwindling popularity in the area.

He contended that the 12-year old jinx would be broken because apart from the fact that the people feel disappointed by the developments over the past 12 years under the MP, his pronouncements, which had generated a lot of controversy in recent times, was an indictment on the people of the constituency.

?It is unfortunate that Assin North MP has been in the news a lot of times. Most of time it has been for the wrong reasons,? he said. He added that many Ghanaians now think Assin people do not respect people.

He indicated that Mr Agyepong?s utterances over the years had greatly affected his popularity in the area and it was likely to spell his defeat in the general elections.

?There is no way he would win the election to spend 16 years as MP. The people are just fed up with him,? he said. He also said his last term as MP had not been beneficial to the constituents.

He stated that the people were made to believe that the development projects were from the MP?s personal finances but have come to know that it is from the MP?s common fund which they were entitled to.

He said the NDC?s problem area is Mr Agyepong?s hometown, Assin Dompim, but stated that the benefits that the people of Dompim have had under the NDC administration had enabled the NDC to make some inroads in the area.

?We are constructing the main road from the main road at Assin Fosu to Dompim while a borehole had been constructed to solve the water problem in the area.

Mr Kutin said it had become obvious to the people that they need a new MP to represent them in parliament. He added that the NDC?s Alex Antwi Boasiako was the obvious choice of the people.

He said Mr Antwi Boasiako had worked hard to get the people to like him. He said his greatest assets for the election was his respect for his fellow human beings. ?Assin Fosu had no water but now it has a mechanised borehole and water is flowing,? he said.

Again, he said the NDC had a united front and would work had to capture the seat in this year?s election.
