NDC Wants To 'Manipulate' 2010 Census Figures - NPP

Posted On Tuesday, 1st May 2012

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it is suspecting foul play in the delays in the release of the 2010 census results by the Ghana Statistical Service.

According to the NPP, the service wants to assist the government to manipulate the figures especially in NDC strongholds hence the delay in releasing the results.

The Statistical Service had earlier stated that it will release the results on April 30 but it now says a new date would be announced in due course.

A statement by Acting Government Statistician, Dr Philomena Nyarko said the service is doing all it could to complete all stages of the census data processing as soon as possible.

But General Secretary of the NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie popularly known as Sir John, in an interview with XYZ News said the delay is deliberate.

?The whole thing is suspicious, they want to assist Government by massaging the figure so that when figures from the NDC strongholds come then it will tie in with figures from Statistical service? He said.

Sir John added “that we have our own figures so if they think that they can hide and massage the figures to help the Volta region, we will wait and see what is produced at the end of the exercise”.

Meanwhile, the deputy General Secretary for the NDC in charge of operation, George Lawson has in an interview with XYZ News dismissed the claims describing them as baseless.
