Ghanaian winger Nana Akwasi Asare help FC Utrecht to book a ticket for next season’s Europa League despite losing 2-1 to rivals FC Twente on Sunday.
Utrecht qualify on a 3-2 aggregate after winning the first 2-0 at the De Grolsch Veste on Thursday.
Nana Asare missed the second-leg at the Stadion Galgenwaard due to suspension.
Serbian Dušan Tadic and Nacer Chadli cancelled out Utrecht’s 2-0 lead from the first-leg by scoring within a space of two minutes in the first-half but Edouard Duplan saved Utrecht’s ambitions by scoring just after the break.
While Nana Asare was watching from the stands at the De Grolsch Veste , Ghanaian youth dup Edwin Gyasi and Shaddrack Eghan were warming the Utrecht bench.
Nana Asare will be making his second appearance in the European second-tier league next season after making his debut in the 2010/11 season.
