Muntari takes number 11 jersey at Sunderland

Posted On Wednesday, 2nd February 2011

Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari has been handed his favourite number 11 jersy at his new side Sunderland.

The 26-year-old takes over Darren Bent who joined Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee last month.

Muntari wore the number 11 shirt for his country during the 2010 Fifa World Cup where the Black Stars reached the quarter finals.

The midfielder-on loan from Inter Milan-missed Tuesday’s 4-2 Premier League defeat to champions Chelsea at the Stadium of Light but is expected to be available for the trip to Stoke City on Saturday.

Good for him. But it also means the entire Sunderland team expects so much from Sulley. Darren Bent was almost a colt figure. To be given his jersey number means a lot.
