Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari was in full time action for AC Milan who were knocked out at the semi-final of the Coppa Italia on Tuesday night despite drawing 2-2 with Juventus.
Milan went into the second leg having suffered a 2-1 first leg defeat in the semi-final at the San Siro last month and needed a favourable win to progress to the final.
Muntari was deployed as a holding midfielder along with Clarion Seedorf and impressed in the game but was booked in the 16th minute for a bad challenge.
The Inter Milan loanee provided the assist for Maxi Lopez to strike Milan in front on 81 minutes.
Former Ghana midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng was expected to mark his return from injury was not included in the Milan squad for the trip.
Yesterday’s match ended 2:1 in favour of Milan and that the first leg ended 2:2 so what is Ghanasoccernet telling us here. How come then is Milan out? I might be wrong though so will wait for someone to tell me whether true or false.
@ Chrish
Its not like that. The first leg was played at Milan’s stadium, San Siro and it ended 2-1 in favour of Juventus. The second leg was played yesterday at Juventus stadium and it ended 2-1 in favour of Milan after 90 minutes. This means the two teams had tied. Based on fifa regulations, if there is a tie between two teams after the two legs, they had to play extra time and if necessary penalties to determine the winner. So they played and Juventus scored a goal in the extra time which made the game 2-2 at Juventus stadium. The aggregate of goals then became 4 goals to 3 in favour of Juventus thereby qualifying Juventus to the finals and Milan been eliminated.
Hey people, I am sensing that, at the end of Muntari’s loan deal with Ac Milan, Inter might ask for his service because of his current form… If that happens, I am kindly advising that he stays with AC – they value him as a player than inter. Remember, his(Muntari) career nearly ended with his former employer(Inter) due to favoritism. I wish him the best of luck anyway!
Muntari would be stupid to go back to Inter. He suffered three years of public humiliation from Inter: His number 11 jersey been taken from him; not been fielded even if players are injured; children been fielded ahead of him; been ignored; been isolated; the list is endless. That’s discrimination at its worst . He should reason up and stay at Milan.
All cards are not played yet. Kevin-Prince and Van Bommel will soon recover from injury. And that’s when the crunch comes in: Will he be able to stand strong for a starting berth, or will he be pushed to the bench once again. That’s the question.
Even if not Milan, he should look for another team. His current form will make it easier for him to find a team. He should never return to Inter for anything.
I AM SOOO HAPPY FOR MUNTARI… OUR PRODIGAL SON!
@Nii Kwatei.
Just for your information KPB is used as a trequartista (i.e. he plays just behind the main striker/s) and Van Bommel is used as a central midfielder. Muntari and Nocerino are used as defensive midfilders which has made Milan even stronger. So there is no competition for Muntari’s position which he has so far excelled beyond all expectations and thats why he has played every single game since he came to Milan.He is not competing with neither of the players you mentioned.
All I’m praying for is that Milan removing one of their players and registering Muntari for the champions league so that he can play against Barcelona. If he plays, Milan would have a big chance of progressing to the semi final of the champions league.
Thank you Assisi! I read the news later and it shows that I couldn’t watch the extra time.
