Sulley Muntari training with his AC Milan teammates on Wednesday

AC Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari trained for the first time this season with his teammates on Wednesday.

Muntari worked with the ball along with his teammates but missed the the practice match played at the Milanello sports centre.

On Thursday, the 28-year-old trained apart from the rest of the Milan players as they prepare to play Lazio on Saturday.

His return to the pitch is a major boost for Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah who is counting on his fitness ahead of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

Muntari was sidelined in June after an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

He underwent surgery and was scheduled to spend at least six months in the treatment room.

“I’m working hard to come back soon to play. I can not wait. I want to give my contribution to the team,” Muntari said.

“I have so much confidence in my teammates. I’m sure that within a short time we will be able to do well and get to where we want to go, because Milan is a great team to aim for higher goals.”
