Mubarak Wakaso celebrating his second goal against Cape Verde

Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso says he is surprised to be in contention for 2013 Africa Cup of Nations top scorer award.

His two second half goals in the 2-0 quarter-final win against Cape Verde increased his tally to three goals from three matches.

The 22-year-old has joined the list of top scorers including injured Burkina Faso forward Alain Traore and Nigeria striker Emmanuel Emenike.

Wakaso is now in the position to challenge for the prestigious accolade having helped the Black Stars book a semi final place.

The Espanyol hard tackler has however revealed his surprise to the position he currently finds himself in.

“Actually I have never thought about it,” he said.”But it us now on so I have to go for it.”

Wakaso is playing in his first Africa Cup of Nations finals.

all those insulting gyan n criticising the stars dont kno anything about modern.
frankly speaking gone are the days when there was underdogs the game of soccer.
any defender that plays against gyan wont to play him hard so becuz of that all the intentions has now been drawned to gyan which is paving way for others to score.the b.stars is a now a free scoring team thanks to a.gyan’s contribution to our game.
asamoah new role as a goal provider or soul sacrificer makes the new stars set up unpredictable.
how many goals did drogba scored before bowing out?
let us give credit where credit is due.
the new asamoah gyan style of play is a lethal weapon for the stars.
everybody i mean even europeans are praising the b.starsbut our own country men are talking crap as if they dont think excuse my language.
ghanaians koraa why????we are in semi-final n still complaining.

  4. FFO says:

well said bro cant agree with u more even nigerians n zambians are proud of their teams who have not done even half of what gh has in the past few yrs

  5. Nii Kwatei says:

We need a striker that scores for fun. For us it’s a surprise when Gyan scores in match. We need a striker that surprises us if when he DOESN’t score. We need a potent dangerous hitman, with a killer instinct that only needs 1 chance. Gyan scores one, and squanders 5, and we are still happy with that.

    My statement would be:
    - either Gyan moves back to Europe and shows us he’s still a serious striker.
    - Or we have to put our hopes in another striker, like Marseille hitman Jordan or Juventus striker Boakye-Yiadom.

But for now, let’s support Gyan since AA put his whole faith in him..
