Eintracht Frankfurt say the collapsed loan move of Ghana midfielder Mohammed Abu is to allow him more playing time elsewhere.Â
Abu joined the German second-tier side last month after returning from the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations and impressed in training but cannot be guaranteed game time.
Coach Armin Veh is reluctant to change a winning team as they head for promotion to the top-flight.
Frankfurt currently lead the Bundesliga II table with six matches remaining.
"Abu has left us with a very good impression," Eintracht sporting director Bruno Hubner said.
"It is therefore possible that the Ghanaian will return in the summer because of the partner between Eintracht Frankfurt and the English club Manchester City."
Manchester City loaned the 20-year for the rest of the season in December last year.
Abu has rejoined his former side Stromsgodset in the Norwegian top flight and featured in last Sunday's 3-2 win over Valerenga.
His contract with Manchester City expires in 2014.
